Traverses Manager

The Traverses Manager manages the traverses in the survey. It lists the traverses, allowing you to select which traverse you want to work with.

You can use the Traverses Manager to organize your data, making it easy to check record data, control data or topo data. Once you start using the Traverses Manager, you’ll wonder how you ever kept track of your data before.

To open the Traverses Manager choose Manage | Traverses from the desktop menu.

Creating a Traverse

To create a new traverse, double-click any blank line in the Traverses Manager or choose Tools | Insert New Traverse and choose one of the insert options like Apend to End.

TPC opens the Surface Settings dialog and gives the traversea new name like Traverse 2. Go ahead and choose the options you want for this traversethen choose OK when you are finished.

Copying an Existing Traverse

Select the traverse you want to duplicate and choose Tools | Copy Traverse (share points) .

Copying a traverse differs from Duplicating a traverse in that it does not create new survey points. Instead, it references the same survey points as the original traverse. The two traverses are therefore linked by their shared survey points. Editing a shared survey point in one traverse will affect the other.

Duplicating an Existing Traverse

Select the traverse you want to duplicate and choose Tools | Duplicate Traverse (create unique points) .

Duplicating a traverse differs from copying a traverse in that it creates new survey points which are duplicates of the original survey points. Because new, unique survey points are created, you can play with the duplicate traverse (rotate, translate, adjust coordinates, etc) without affecting the original traverse.

Modifying the Points in a Traverse

TPC provides a few commands that operate on all the points in a traverse. You can protect or unprotect all the points and turn the Topo status of all the points on or off.

Eiditing Traverse Properties

Right click any traverse and choose Properties to display the Traverse Properties dialog.

Opening a Traverse

You can open a traverse in one of three views: Traverse View, Closure View or Vertical Curve View.

Right click the traverse you want to open then choose Tools | Open and select the view you want from the list.

Adding a Traverse to a Drawing

To include a traversein the current drawing, tag it. See Tagging Items.
To remove a traversefrom the current drawing, untag it.

Initially, a tagged traverseis drawn with it's Traverse Settings. However, you can tell a traversethat you want to use settings that are unique to a particular drawing allowing you to retain the surfaces settings in other drawings that use it.

Formatting the Traverses Manager

To format the Traverses Manager choose Tools | View | Format View and choose the information you want to include in the view.

You can include quite a bit of information about each traverse in the Traverses Manager, including area, relative error of closure, precision, etc. See Displaying Traverse Data.

Organizing Traverses Into Groups

If you have lots of traverses, they can be grouped. In the example shown here, three As-Built drawings have been grouped together along with two Recorded drawings and 26 preliminary drawings.

TTo turn on groups choose Tools | Traverse Groups | Show Groups.
