TPC supports Point, PointZ, Polyline, PolylineZ, Polygon and PolygonZ shapes.
A PointZ shape contains elevation information whereas a Point shape does not. TPC assumes an elevation of zero when reading shapes without elevations.
When you export points from the Points Manager, TPC creates a Points shape file.
When you import a Points shape file into a survey, TPC creates the survey points, automatically labeling the imported points, and can insert the points into a traverse if you request.
When you import Point shapes into a drawing, TPC creates Point objects with X,Y,Z coordinates. Point objects are always drawn as small circles.
When you export Traverses from the Traverses Manager, TPC writes the traverse boundaries as Polyline shapes. Each traverse becomes a Polyline record in the shape file. If you export 10 traverses, your shape file will contain 10 polyline shape records.
When you import a Polyline shape file into a survey, TPC creates a traverse for each polyline shape record in the file. If TPC determines that the shape file contains a large number of records, it suggests that you import the shapes into a drawing, but allows you to continue importing them into the survey if you choose. You can change the threshold number at which TPC issues this warning in the Shape file settings dialog.
When you import a Polyline shape file into a drawing, TPC creates one Polyline object in the drawing for each Polyline shape record in the file.
TPC does not write Polygon shapes. Traverses and drawing objects other than points are exported as polylines.
When you import a Polygon shape file into a survey, TPC creates a traverse for each polygon, much like it does when it imports Polyline shapes. The advantage of Polygons over Polylines is that Polygons have a higher correlation to traverses, so the Shape file is likely to contain fewer records than a Polyline shape file.
When you import a Polygon shape file into a drawing, TPC creates one Polyline object in the drawing for each Polygon shape record in the file.
TPC does not support MultiPatch or MultiPoint shapes, Null shapes or any of the Measured shapes. When TPC encounters unsupported shapes in a shape file, it displays a warning message and cancels the operation.
