Selecting Traverse Data in Drawing View

This topic discusses how you can create a traverse in the Drawing View and select its data from the drawing. This method allows you to check electoric files of plats.

Running the Command

  1. From the Drawings Manager, open the drawing you want to add the traverse to or create a new drawing.
  2. Choose Tools | Add Points to Traverse to display the Add Points to Traverse dialog.
  3. Enter the name of the new traverse you want to create. To add points to an existing traverse,  select it from the pull-down list.
  4. Select the Format for the new traverse. TPC uses the edit sequence of the format to prompt you for data. TPC remembers the format you select and uses it automatically the next time you run this command.
  5. For the Method, choose - Select lines, arcs, plylines, etc. from the drawing.\nTPC arranges them in proper sequence to create the traverse for you.
  6. Choose the Traverse Settings to draw the traverse as you enter the data. You might want to use a contrasting color with point labels. We recommend you set the Distance and Direction options to None to reduce the amount of text on the drawing. This will make it easier to select starting points for subsequent traverses.
  7. If you plan on entering more than one lot, turn on the Repeat the Command option.
  8. Choose OK.

Select the data indicated by the highlighted cell in the Traverse View and the command prompt in the Status Line. To select data, position the cursor over the text object in the drawing and left click. TPC enters the data into the Traverse View. When you have selected enough data to compute the point, TPC draws the point, connects it to the previous traverse point and advances to the next traverse point.

When you are finished selecting data into the traverse, press Enter.

Reversing Bearings and Radii

If a bearing is labeled in the direction oposit the way you are traversing, press Shift + Left Click to reverse or just double click any blank spot in Drawing View. The same thing works to reverse the direction of a curve from CW to CCW or CCW to CW. The rule here is that to reverse a curve, the Traverse View must be highlighting a curve related data column like Radius, Arc Length or Delta. If any other column is highlighted, the bearing will be reversed.

Advancing Through the Edit Sequence

You select data into the traverse based on the edit sequence of that traverses Format. After TPC enters your selected data into the traverse, it advances to the next item in the edit sequence. Once it has advanced through all the items in the edit sequence, it computes the traverse point and advances to the next traverse point.

To advance through edit sequence items you don't have data for (like advancing past the Radius when you are selecting a tangent line), press the right mouse button.

Hot Keys

Interacting with the Traverse View

You can switch between the Traverse View and the Drawing View by left clicking either view. Activating the Traverse View suspends the command in Drawing View, allowing you to edit the traverse manually as needed.

When you click on the Traverse View, the cell you clicked becomes highlighted and you can enter a data in that cell. This allows you to manually correctany traverse data as needed. You might also use this to add data listed elsewhere on the plat in a table or addendum or on another page. After you have manually entered the data, left click anywhere on the Drawing View to re-active the command.

Ideal Uses

This method is ideal for checking paper plats. Once you create the first lot, you can add additional adjacent lots, sharing common points and lot lines but also entering new data and checking lot closure. Using the option to repeat the command automatically creates new traverses and increments the lot labels for you.
