This topic discusses how you can create a traverse in the Drawing View and select existing survey points and positions from the drawing to create the traverse. This method allows you to quickly and visually create traverses from existing survey and drawing data.
Once you have imported or downloaded your site data into TPC, this is a great way to create feature lines from the data. You can start with a point plot of all the data you downloaded, then create the traverses you want just by clicking on the points. The Object Snap makes this even easier by selecting the points for you.
This is the command you will want to use to digitize units or features on an aerial photo. Just insert the photo into your drawing and georeference it to the survey. Now use this command to outline a resouce unit, trace a drainage line, delilniate a buffer or whatever. It's fast and easy to create as many traverses as you need.
From the Drawings Manager, open the drawing you want to add the traverse to or create a new drawing with Tools | Insert New Drawing | select an option.
Position the cursor over the first point or position you want in the traverse and left click. TPC will display the Traverse View and display the point you just selected or created.
TPC will active the Traverse View and display the traverse you just created. Left click the Drawing View any time to reactivate it.
In step 3. above, choose the Method - Select existing survey points only.
TPC lets you Ignore layers. Objects on an Ignored layer can not be selected because the cursor does not react to them (called a hit test), even though they are still visible in the drawing. This option is not available in CAD programs, but is very useful when selecting drawing objects. You can Ignore any layer by right clicking any object on that layer and choosing Layer Tools, Ignore. When you Window an area, TPC does not select the objects on the Ignored layer.
