TPC stores point codes in a point code file with the file extension 'PCT'. Each survey can have one point code file (i.e. JOB1.TRV is the survey file and JOB1.PCT is the point code file). Each time you exit the Point Codes Manager, when you choose Tools | Save Codes from the Point Codes Manager and when you close a survey, TPC updates the point code file with the current point codes.
When you open a survey, TPC looks for a point code file having the same file name as the survey and the PCT extension. It looks for the point code file in the same folder as the survey file. If TPC doesn't find a point code file for the survey, it creates a new one with no codes in it unless a default point code table has been defined. If you have defined a default point code table, TPC populates the new PCT file with the codes from the default point code table.
TPC ships with several point code tables. These are stored in a folder called \PointCodes\ in the program's data folder. You can import these codes into your survey and go from there.
If you have point codes that you tend to use over and over for most of your surveys, you can write them to a file and import that file into any survey. Once imported, you can change the information stored with the codes, add new codes and delete codes you won't need for the current survey. The imported codes and any new ones you add are saved to the survey's point code file.
To share the codes you have generated for the current survey with other surveys, just export them to their own point code file and import that file into any other survey. This is also how you can create or update the default point code table
