Using Multiple Monitors

If you can use more than one monitor at a time you can stretch TPC's desktop across them, creating a larger work space for your surveys.

Expanding to a Second Monitor

You expand to a second monitor via Windows Desktop Properties.

In Vista, right click any blank spot on the Windows desktop and choose Properties, Display Settings and choose the Monitors tab (it may be displayed already). If you have a second monitor available, this tab displays monitors  '1' and '2'. Left click monitor '2' and then choose Extend the desktop onto this monitor.

In Windows XP, right click any blank spot on the Windows desktop and choose Properties, Display Settings and choose the Advanced Settings tab. If you have a second monitor available, this tab displays both monitors as '1' and '2'. Left click monitor '2' and then choose Extend the desktop onto this monitor.

Resizing TPC's Desktop

The second monitor needs to be displaying the Windows desktop background or another application before you can extend TPC's desktop onto it. If it is not, stop here and get the second monitor working.

Drag the right side of the TPC desktop onto the second monitor and all the way to the right side. This will stretch TPC's desktop area onto the second monitor. TPC now knows that it has access to all the area on both monitors.

Positioning the Views

Drag-n-drop any views you want onto the second monitor. Placing a view entirely on one monitor or the other is best.

Many people place the Drawing View on the second monitor, using the first monitor for data and computations and the second monitor for drafting.

Positioning Toolbars

If you position a view on the second monitor, you may also want to position it's toolbars on the second monitor also. See Toolbars.

Positioning the Dialogs

Most dialogs are positioned in the center of the primary monitor by default. Some dialogs, like the COGO dialogs, open at a fixed position in the upper-right corner of the TPC Desktop. Once opened, they can then be positioned anywhere you want on the TPC Desktop.

You can drag-n-drop most dialogs anywhere, on any monitor, regardless of whether or not it is occupied by the TPC Desktop. However, when the dialog is reopened, TPC will reposition the dialog back onto the TPC Desktop.
