Message View

TPC uses the Message View to tells you about something it found or did. For example, if the file you are importing contains a duplicate point, the Message View might say "Duplicate point 37 renamed to 37:1". If you had told TPC to overwrite existing points, the message might read "Updated coordinates of point 37". TPC appends new messages to the end of the Message View so it is a running record of anything TPC encounters that it thinks you should know about.

As a rule, you will not edit the text in the Message View even though it has the ability to. Instead, you will refer to the messages in it and take appropriate action if needed.

Clearing the Message View

To clear it, choose Tools | Clear View.

The messages that are appended to the Message View correspond to whatever part of the program you are using. As a result, when you are finished with a particular task that has generated error messages, there is no reason to keep the old messages around. This is the time you will want to clear the view. It's like starting over with a clean slate before you dive into the next task.

Message View File

When you close the view, it is saved to a file with the .RTF extension. If your survey file is JOB1.TRV, the Message View will be saved to JOB1.RTF. If you close the survey file and reopen it, the Message View reads the RTF file and displays the messages from your previous session.

Editing the Message View

You can edit the text in the Message View like you would in any word processor. You can cut, copy and past text from other applications.

To change the font choose View | Choose Font.

To change the word wrap options, choose View | Word Wrap and select the option you want.

Printing the Message View

If you would like a printed record of messages in this view, choose Tools | Print | Print Report.

Appending the Message View to a Report

TPC also has a Report View that works much like the Message View. To append the entire contents of the Message View to the current report, choose Tools | Print | Append to Report View.
