Spell Checking a Drawing

This topic identifies the different ways to check your drawing and when to use each.

To learn more about spell check options like changing or ignoring a misspelled word, see the Spell Check dialog topic.

Objects that Allow Spell Checking

Objects like text and text boxes allow spell checking. Objects like lines and arcs don't. The Spell Check commands in Drawing View ignore any objects that do not allow spell checking.

TPC allows you to spell check groups and blocks. If the group or block contains objects that do not allow spell checking, those objects are ignored. This feature allows you to check legends and title blocks for instance.

Checking the Entire Drawing

To check the spelling of the entire drawing, choose Tools, Check Spelling. TPC will check every object in the drawing for misspelled words. If a misspelled word is found, TPC will open the Spell Check dialog, display the text from that object in the dialog and highlight the misspelled word.

Checking a Single Object

To check a single object like a text box, right click the object and choose Spell Check.

Checking Spelling in the Text Dialog

When you right click a text object and choose Properties, TPC displays the Text dialog. To spell check the text object from this dialog, choose Check Spelling.

Checking Selected Objects

To check selected objects, right click any selected object that allows spell checking and choose Spell Check. TPC spell checks each selected object. If your have selected an object which do not allow spell checking, TPC ignores that object.

Checking a Layer

To check a layer, right click any object on the layer you want to check and choose Layers, Check Spelling. TPC checks each object on the layer, ignoring objects that do not allow spell checking.

The status bar at the bottom of the TPC Desktop, displays the layer name and counts down the objects as they are checked, starting with the number of objects on the layer and ending with zero after the last object is checked.

The Ignore All and Change All options in the Spell Check dialog are reset when this command is inniated and accumulate as each object is checked. So if you igore a proper name, say "GUNTERSON" in any one object, all objects that are checked after that will also ignore "GUNTERSON".

Checking Groups and Blocks

To check any group or block, right click it and choose Check Spelling. You can also select groups and blocks along with other objects and check selected objects.

When a gropu or block is checked, TPC checks each object in the group. Objects in the group or block that do not allow spell checking are ignored.

The Ignore All and Change All options in the Spell Check dialog accumulate as each object is checked. So if you igore a proper name, say "GUNTERSON" in any one object, all objects that are checked after that will also ignore "GUNTERSON".
