Searching for Points
Finding Matching Points and Traverses
If you are searching for an existing point, you can search for it in the Traverses Manager, Points Manager and any Traverse View.
- Choose Edit | Find to display the Find dialog.
- Type the text to look for.
- Choose Traverse Name, Point Label or Point Description.
- Choose Find Next. TPC stops at the first item with a match.
- Choose Find Next as needed to continue the search.
- When you are finished with the search, choose Cancel to close the Find dialog.
If you search for a point in the Traverses Manager, TPC stops at the next traverse that contains that point. To find the point in the traverse, go to the Traverse View and repeat the search.
Re-labeling Points
Re-labeling is real time saver if you use alpha/numeric point labels and want to export the points to other software that only allows point numbers. You can re-label the points in TPC to whatever the other software wants.
The points to be relabeled must be in a traverse.
- Go to the Traverse View for the traverse that you want to re-label.
- Select the points you want to re-label, or just highlight the starting point.
- Choose Tools | Relabel.
- Type the new label you want to Start with. It will automatically be incremented if you re-label more than one point.
- Select Copy Label to Description if you want your original labels to appear in the description.
- Choose OK.
The new labels are assigned to the survey points, possibly re-sorting them in the Points Manager.
Replacing Point Labels and Descriptions
TPC allows you to replace both point labels and descriptions with new text.
- From the Points Manager or Traverse View choose Edit | Replace to display the Replace dialog.
- Enter the text to find and the text to replace it with.
- Choose the options you want.
- When finished, choose Cancel.
- If text is replaced in the point labels, TPC re-sorts the points into numerical and alphabetical order. This resorting will show up in the Points Manager but does not affect the Traverse View.
