Existing Point Dialog

Each point in the survey has a unique point label. If you enter an existing point label into the highlighted field in a dialog or screen, you can do one of the following:

Recall existing point and its coordinates

Recall the existing point into the highlighted field. Its coordinates and description will be brought in even though they may not be displayed in the dialog or screen.

Any point in the highlighted field is still part of the survey and can be accessed by typing its point label.

Recall existing point as redundant observation

Recall the existing point but set it up to hold redundant data. As a result, the data you enter will not recompute the point. TPC displays an OBS in the Type column to indicate that this data is now an Observation only. If the point you highlighted in the Traverse View was a side shot, it will become an observation to a side shot. If it was a foresight, it will become an observation to a foresight. Either way, TPC will display OBS in the Type column.

Update existing point with computed coordinates

This action varies, depending on the context:

From the Traverse or Point Views, this copies the coordinates of the point in the highlighted field into the existing point. The existing point is not recalled into the view.

From most COGO dialogs, this updates the label of the computed point in the dialog to that of the existing point. The existing point is not updated until the user selects the Save button in the dialog or closes the dialog, depending on the dialog.

In either case, TPC will not allow you to update the existing point if it is protected.

Copy coordinates of existing point into this point

Copy the coordinates of the existing point to the point in the highlighted field. After the coordinates are copied, the point in the highlighted field will be re-displayed.

Make a unique point label based on this point label

Makes a new point label from the existing point label by adding a -# where # is a number that makes the resulting point label unique. For example, 100 would become 100-1. If 100-1 already exists, 100 would become 100-2, etc.

Use next available unused point number

Select this option to use the next available number greater than the one you typed.

OK

Applies the selection you have made and returns you to the Traverse View.

Cancel

Returns you to the Traverse View without changing the point label.
