Shape File Settings Dialog

The Shape File dialog determines what shape types TPC imports and exports.

Import – Symbol & Browse

Choose the Object file for the symbol you want to attach to any Point shapes imported into a drawing. The Symbol is not used when importing shapes into a survey.

Import – Traverse Threshold

Enter the number of shape file records at which TPC issues a warning stating that the shape files contains a large number of records and should probably be imported into a drawing instead of the survey.

Shape files can include thousands of short polylines that define drainage lines, contours, etc. These shape files are not appropriate to be imported into the survey via the Points Manager or Traverse View because each Polyline shape creates a traverse. You should import these shape files into a drawing, then convert the appropriate polyline objects to traverses.

Import – Starting Point Label & Next Label

When importing shapes into a survey, the first shape is assigned this point label. This label is then incremented for additional shapes.

Choose the Next Label button to find the next available label.

Import – Point Description

When importing shapes into a survey, this description is copied to each created survey point.

Export – Drawing Shapes

When exporting from a drawing, choose which shape to include in the shape file. Remember, a shape file can contain only one shape type. To export both Point and Polylines, you will need to export two shape files, one for each.

Export Elevations

When exporting elevations, TPC writes PointZ shapes instead of Point shapes and PolylineZ shapes instead of Polyline shapes.
