Set Out Corners - PLSS

When you set out corners, you set up the traverse to display true bearings and ground distance. The traverse data becomes your notes for setting out the corner.

Typically in a stakeout traverse, you will recall the OP (point being occupied), the BS (bascksight) and then the corner being set. A typical traverse would look like this

Point    Type    Angle    Geo Dist    Description
100
99       BS      0°00'00"   134.54    H&N
140140          89°15'30"    15.23    C1/4 S31

Setting up on control point 100 and backsighting control point 99, turn an angle off 89°15'30" and measure a distance of 15.23 FT to set out corner 140140.

Distance units in any traverse can be set to chains you can use the survey units (feet in the in example above).

Alternate Set Outs

You can print out a traverse, recall alternate OP and BS points then reprint the traverse as many times as you want to create alternate set out notes. You can also recall alternate set out configurations within the same traverse as show below.

Point    Type    Angle    Geo Dist    Description
100
99       BS      0°00'00"   134.54    H&N
140140          89°15'30"    15.23    C1/4 S31
100

101      BS      0°00'00"   134.54    H&N
140140         127°01'10"    15.23    C1/4 S31

Saving the Set Out Notesving the Set Out Notes

Traverses that you add to a survey are saved with the survey. So if you create a traverse for your set out notes, that traverse is saved with the survey.

You can record your set out readings in the field and import that data back into TPC to create notes for the actual positions (as set) of the corners.
