A dimension provides information about an object like its length, direction, central angle, etc. at some offset distance from the object itself. It consists of a dimension line, a label, reference lines tie the end points of the object to the end points of the dimension line and optional arrows at the end of the dimension line.
To dimension more than one object
If you dimension an object then move that object, the dimension and its label move with the original object. You can not however, reposition a dimension relative to the object it is dimensioning.
If you resize a dimensioned object, the dimension lines and labels update automatically. So edit the properties of a line, trim or extend it or whatever you need to do – the dimension will update automatically.
You can position the dimension label anywhere you want. The label knows its offset from the center of the dimension line.
Each dimension gets its properties form the Dimension Settings dialog of the drawing. If you change any of the options in the Dimension Settings dialog, all the dimensions in the drawing update automatically to the new settings. If for instance, you change the color from black to gray, all the dimensions will now be gray.
To modify any of the properties of a single dimension, right click the dimension line or label and choose Properties. TPC displays the Line or Arc dialog box if you selected the dimension line and the Text dialog if you selected the dimension label. Make the changes you want and choose OK. TPC redraws that dimension with the new properties.
TPC knows which properties you modify and holds those properties for the dimension. However, the properties you do not explicitly change are still controlled by the drawing’s Dimension Settings.
