Sort Points by Code Dialog

Use this dialog to sort points into traverses based on their codes.

Copy code descriptions to points

When sorting points into traverses, this option copies the code description into the point description. The point description 'CL' would become 'CL Center Line', where 'Center Line' is the description of the 'CL' code.

With this option turned off, the description ‘CL’ remains unchanged.

Replace codes with code descriptions

When sorting points into traverses, this option replaces the point code in the point description with the code description. The point description 'CL' would become 'Center Line', where 'Center Line' is the description of the 'CL' code.

With this option turned off, the description ‘CL’ remains unchanged.

Exact match

Only accept exact matches when looking for codes in point descriptions. The point description 'BL1' would not be an exact match for the code 'BL'.

With this option turned off, the ‘BL1’ description would be a match for the ‘BL’ code and it would be sorted into the ‘BL’ traverse.

Case sensitive

Treat upper and lower case letters as being different. The code 'BL' does not find a match in the point description 'bl'.

With this option turned off, the code ‘BL’ would find a match in the point description ‘bl’.

Update existing traverses only

This option only updates traverses that already exist. When this option is turned on, new traverses are not created, but new survey points are still added to existing traverses created from their point codes.

With this option turned off, traverses will be created as needed for all codes sorted. Existing traverses will be updated.

Note: Prior to Version 5.0, traverses did not store the Point Code used to create them. As a result, these traverses cannot be updated unless you manually enter their point code. To do this, include the letter ‘C’ in the Traverses Manager format to include the ‘Point Code’ column and enter the appropriate codes for each traverse you want updated.

First word in point description is a code

Turn this option on to treat the first word in a point description as a code (this is the default setting). When turned on, the point description 'OAK 14"DBH' will return 'OAK' as a code.

With this option turned off, the point description 'OAK 14"DBH' will not return any code but the point description 'OAK--14"DBH' would return ‘OAK’ as a code and ‘14"DBH’ as a second code (as long as ‘—‘ is the default code delimiter). If a description does not return a code, the point will not be sorted into a traverse.

Note: The default code delimiter can be set in the Point Codes Manager Settings dialog box (from any view choose Tools | Program Settings and left click the Point Code tab) but the delimiter for a single survey can be changed at any time in the Update Codes Dialog.

Sort What

Choose which codes you want to create traverses for.

All will sort all of the codes listed in the Point Codes Manager.

Selected will sort only the codes that were selected in the Point Codes Manager before sorting points into traverses.

Tagged will sort only the codes that were tagged in the Point Codes Manager before sorting points into traverses.
