Coordinate Conversion Dialog

This option is available to let you convert a survey between coordinate systems.

To change the coordinate units of the current survey, choose Tools | Coordinate Conversion.

Note: If you choose feet or chains, the program will display all of its data in feet and inches. If you choose meters, the program will display all its data in mm and cm.

From

This field is not editable. It displays the coordinate system in use in the current survey.

To

Choose Feet, Chains or Meters. To change units, choose one of the other units. Changing units only changes the coordinate values. It does not change the position of the survey points, nor does it change any of the raw data you may have entered in traverses.

Factor

This is the computed factor that will be used to change the survey data. You can use it or enter your own factor.

Note: To convert survey units without changing the coordinate or distance values, enter a factor 1.0.

Intl. Foot, U.S. Survey Foot

You can specify which factor to use when converting between meters and feet.

Intl. Foot:1 ft = 304.80 mm

U.S. Survey Foot:1 ft = 304.800609 mm (from 1 m = 39.37 Moffit/Bouchard 6th

edition 1975)

Base Point, X, Y, Z

If you want to shrink or expand the survey coordinates about a certain point, enter the coordinate value of that point. If the point is already defined by an existing survey point, just recall that point.

Protected Points

Convert protected points.

Raw Data

Convert raw data like slope distance, radius, etc.

Your decision to convert raw data depends on whether the raw data units match the coordinate units. Some times, particularly when importing raw data from a data collector, your raw data may be in feet when the survey units are meters.

OK

Applies the Coordinate Conversion you have specified and returns you to the previous view.

Cancel

Returns you to the previous view without making any changes.
