The TPC Survey System is a unique and innovative way to manage your survey data and the things you do with it. From beginning you end, you'll find all the tools you need right here in one spot. Here is a brief introduction to some of the technologies that make up the TPC Smart Survey System.
You do everything right from the TPC Desktop™. Just open the View you want and there’s all your data and the tools to work with it. Once you learn how the TPC Desktop works, you’ll do your work more efficiently and have a lot more fun doing it.
TPC Desktop makes it easy to access the data you want when you want it. Yet it gives you complete freedom to organize it all the way you want. Extend the TPC Desktop onto multiple monitors or sqeeze it down to your notebook computer. No matter how you lay it out, you can always get around efficiently with our Obvious Navigation™.
TPC Desktop uses your data to draw
the map for you. That’s why we call it the
No
CAD Zone®. You select colors, line types, symbols and other attributes
and TPC Desktop creates the drawing for you. Then just modify individual drawing
objects as needed. You’ll find that TPC Desktop typically does 90% of a drawing
for you and you do the final 10%.
Letting the Traverses do the work for you is the key to drawing with TPC Desktop. We like to invite you to ‘take your CAD hat off’ and ‘put your TPC hat on’. This is a different way of creating your drawings. It’s fast. It’s fun. And it’s NOT CAD!
Select the traverses, points and surfaces you want to include in a drawing and tell TPC how you want to draw them and our Quick View™ technology draws it for you. And go ahead, fix the mistake you made when you calculated a point or entered a bearing. The drawing updates automatically because it’s based on the data.
Take the busy work out of drafting with our smart drawing objects. Rotate your drawing on the page and the north arrow rotates automatically. Or reference a background photo to your survey then change drawing scale and the photo rescales too. You’ll find dozens of these Smart Drawing Objects™ that know just what you want them to do.
You can share your drawings with anyone because TPC supports both vector and raster drawing formats like PDF, DWG, DXF, DGN, Shape, PGN, EMF/WMF, GIF, TIF & JPG.
For lack of a better definition, we call it the What? list™. When you perform a data or COGO operation, you always know what data your’re working with because the What? list™ tells you. Sounds simple - and it is. That’s the whole point.
Every program in the Traverse PC Survey System comes with a concise, easy-to-follow Getting Started guide. You’ll learn how to start a survey, take side shots, traverse ahead, stakeout points and share data. There’s even a list of helpful hot keys. It’s a great way to get up and running quickly. TPC Desktop also has an available Learning Guide that takes you through more advanced options step-by-step.
We are really excited about the Point Code tools built into every TPC Survey System program. The TPC Handheld program uses a pop-up point code table to help you use and manage your point coding system. You can use standard code tables or add codes on the fly, change code tables, print and plot codes, and use multiple codes per point. In the office, TPC Desktop can use the point codes to convert your field data into maps with feature lines, layers, colors, line types, bearing/distance, curves almost automatically - it’s really good stuff. The best part about using our Point Codes is that you can do whatever you want. You aren’t locked into one way of coding your survey data and you don’t have to be a field-to-finish expert to make it work.
Every program in the TPC Survey System supports ASCII coordinate, TDS (RW5 and CR5), SDR, and DXF files. Some also provide direct support for Wild, Nikon, Criterion Lasers, LI Contour, Topcon and more. That’s just about everything. Plus, they’re built right in. We don’t make you download to some clumsy transfer software then translate your data into some other format, run yet another software program and try to find the file you created. With the TPC Software System, just choose the format you want, plug into the other device and choose Go - it’s that simple.
No matter which TPC Survey System program you use, you’ll also enjoy great TRAVERSE PC stuff like spreadsheet data entry with "Form View", alpha/numeric point labels, point codes, angle sets, stakeout, printed reports, "Drawing View" graphics, ASCII / SDR / TDS / TRV files, file transfers, raw data manager, Survey Manager, Traverses Manager, Points Manager, data selection, total station drivers...and the list goes on.
Choose a TPC program with additional COGO, printing, plotting, database tools, traverse adjustments, additional file formats or data collector interface.
Every program in the TPC Survey System uses the same TRV file. There’s no need to import/export or upload/download. Sharing data is as easy as highlighting a file and choosing Send. Want to set up the job for the field crew in the office? Just run TPC Desktop, enter the deeds or translate the control, use the Drawing View and Closure View to make sure its right, and then transfer that job to the handheld computer. Want to start a job in the field and pick up where you left off back in the office? Just start the job on your handheld, tie everything down based on assumed coordinates, then transfer the job to the PC, rotate and translate and you’re ready to draw the map.
Sharing files with the TPC Survey System is as simple as checking a book out from the library. Check out the jobs you want at the start of the day and check them back in at the end of the day. If you record a stakeout point or add control points to a job - no problem - it just gets checked back in with the job at the end of the day. It sure beats figuring out how to merge the shots you took today with the shots you took last week.
We know that you have questions from time to time. We also know that when you call, you want answers. That’s why when you call TRAVERSE PC, Inc. for technical support, you’ll talk to a real person, probably a licensed land surveyor, get the help you need and be on your way. You can also visit our web site and pull down technical notes on everything from carrying elevations to Windows. Here at TRAVERSE PC, Inc. we have a secret weapon - we run our own land surveying company - and we use the TPC Survey System every day for our own surveys. When you ask us how to do something, chances are we’ve done it ourselves - recently - with our own software.
Just ask the guys at TDS or any other survey software company how many surveys they did last week.
No one wants to get stuck with software they can’t update - sometimes you just need to do more. With the TPC Survey System, software updates are easy. Here’s how they work:
Software updates can be mailed to you on a PC disk or you can download them from our web site. You don’t have to send in your handheld or program card to get an update.
To update TPC Handheld, just run LapLink on the update disk. It talks to the handheld and takes care of everything. You’ll find easy-to-follow instructions in each program manual.
