SMI (Eagle Point)
TPC supports both the SMI Raw and Coordinate file formats. You can Import and Export to a file or SMI’s V7 Transfer (built in) and transfer data via serial port on your computer.
Importing SMI Coordinate Files
- From the TPC Desktop menu choose File | Import.
- From the Type list, choose SMI Coordinate then settings you want
by clicking on the [...] button.
- Enter a file name or choose Browse and select the file you want.
- Choose Import.
TPC will add a new traverse to the survey and put all the imported points into it. The imported points also show up in the Points Manager. If you don’t want the traverse you can delete it. The points will remain in the Points Manager.
Exporting an SMI Coordinate File
If a traverse or traverses already define the data you want to export, go to the Traverses Manager. If you want to export just certain points, go to the Points Manager.
- Select the traverses or points you want from the View.
- From the TPC Desktop menu choose File | Export.
- From the Type list, choose SMI Coordinate then settings you want
by clicking on the [...] button.
- Enter a file name or choose Browse.
- Select the data to export from the What list.
- Choose Export. If the file already exists, you will be prompted to overwrite it.
The Export dialog will indicate how many records were written to the file.
Importing SMI Raw Files

- From the Type list, choose SMI & JETT CE Raw then settings you
want by clicking on the [...] button.
- Enter a file name or choose Browse and select the file you want.
- Choose Import.

- From the TPC Desktop menu choose File | Export.
- From the Type list, choose SMI & JETT CE Raw then settings you
want by clicking on the [...] button.
- Enter a file name or choose Browse.
- Select the data to export from the What list.
- Choose Export.
The Export dialog will indicate how many records were written to the file.
Transferring Files
SMI data can be transferred directly to and from your SMI data collector using the built-in transfer program supplied by SMI.
- Use the steps above to write an SMI Raw or SMI Coordinate file containing the data you wish to send to the data collector.
- From the Type list in either the Import or Export dialog, choose SMI & JETT CE Raw or SMI Coordinates.
- Turn on [x] Use Manufacturer's Transfer
- Choose Import or Export. TPC will display the SMI Transfer Program.
- Use the tabs in this dialog to set up the transfer to the data collector.
- Choose Transfer and follow the steps displayed.
When the transfer is complete, TPC will return to the Import or Export dialog.
