Using PNG Files

PNG Files

Portable Network Graphics (PNG) Files are graphics files. They are vector files (not bitmaps) which means they can be scaled indefinitely without loss of resolution – making your maps crisp and readable whether you plot them to an 8.5”X11” or 24”X36” sheet of paper.

PNG files are operating system independent and small. They are most similar to PDF files in portability and size. PNG files are excellent for archiving drawings.

Exporting PNG Files

TPC can export any drawing in PNG format. The entire drawing, including the border, is written to the PNG file. The exported PNG file is like a snapshot of the drawing. It can be printed or plotted to any windows device at any scale, displayed in the XP viewer, attached to an e-mail or inserted into most Windows applications.

By default, TPC combines both the survey name and drawing name when creating a PNG file. TPC would create the file Job1Drawing1.png for Drawing1 of the Job1 survey.

Importing PNG Files

You can import PNG files by inserting them into a drawing using the Insert | Picture command. Once inserted, the PNG file can be sized, rotated, flipped, mirrored or edited.

Supported Objects

PNG files support any thing that TPC can include in a drawing. You’ll see the fills, hatching, line types, True Type fonts, inserted pictures – everything.
