The PCS300 is organized into a coordinates section and a survey data section. The coordinate section just stores the computed coordinates of any collected data and the survey data section stores just raw data without computing any coordinates. It is not a very useful system unless you are just doing stakeout or just doing data collection without the need to compute anything in the field.
The coordinate format options are DC1, AUX and CSV. TPC Desktop supports AUX and CSV.
This format uses the DC1Z format and the Ack/Nak protocol. TPC Desktop does not support ACK/NAK so this format is not supported.
Same as the DC1 format, but does not use a protocol and includes a 4 digit record number at the beginning of each line. The record numbers are 0001, 0002, 0003, 0004, etc..
When importing a DC1Z format file, TPC Desktop tries to determine if the records contain a record number by testing to see if the first and fourth characters in the line are digits. If so, it strips it of the record number, leaving just the DC1Z header.
The Pentax PTS600 refers to this as the 'Non Protocol' format.
This is a simple ASCII format (P,Y,X,Z,D\) with no protocol (text transfer). Some of the PCS300's did not allow a description, so the user will need to exclude the D from the format. The point numbers are limited to 4 chars and the description is limited to 8 chars.
The PCS300 requires a 200 msec. delay at the end of each line of data sent to it. Without this delay, it will not complete its upload properly. It also expects a CR/LF at the end of each line.
When importing CSV, the PCS300 creates a job called Coordinates to hold the incoming data.
The Survey Data format options are DC1, AUX and SDR. TPC Desktop supports the AUX format only.
