Add Points To Traverse Dialog

Drawing View

This dialog is displayed when you add points to a traverse in Drawing View. Use this dialog to:

  1. Specify the traverse name, format, settings, etc.. If you enter or select data, TPC uses the Edit Sequence of the format to sequence the data.
  2. Specify the Traverse Settings for drawing the inserted traverse.
  3. Select a method for creating the traverse - data, lines, points, etc.
  4. Select how the Traverse View and Drawing View interact.

New Traverse vs Existing Traverse

You determine whether or not TPC creates a new traverse by whether or enter a new traverse name or select an existing traverse name from the Name field in the dialog.

The title of the dialog indicates whether you are creating a new traverse or using an existing traverse.

Add points to New traverse - your actions will create a new traverse and add these points to it.

Add points to Existing traverse - your actions will append these points to an existing traverse.

The buttons at the bottom of the dialog also indicate whether or not you are creating a new traverse.

Insert / Append - TPC displays the Insert button (insert the new traverse above the selected traverse in the Traverses Manager) and Append button (add the new traverse to the end of the list of traverses in the Traverses Manager) when you are creating a new traverse. These buttons allow you to group traverses in the Traverses Manager. If you are creating feature lines from the Points Manager, select one of the feature line traverses in the Traverses Manager and choose Insert to add the new traverse to the group.

OK - TPC displays the Ok button when you are adding points to an existing traverse.

To create a new traverse

Enter the name of the new traverse in the Name field. TPC will let you know if the name you entered is already used for another traverse. You can then choose to use the existing traverse or re-enter the name for the new traverse. You can also select an existing traverse then modify the name to create a new traverse.

To add points to an existing traverse

Expand the Name list and select an existing traverse from the list or enter an existing traverse name and when prompted, tell TPC you want to use it. The points will be appended to the end of the existing traverse.

Name

Enter any name you choose. The more descriptive you are in the Traverse Name, the easier it will be to organize your survey.

For instance, if the lots in your drawing are numbered 1, 2, 3, etc. you might want to name the first traverse "Lot 1" so that the corresponding traverses get named Lot 2, Lot 3, etc.

Format

Select a format from the pull-down list. The list includes the pre-defined formats provided by Traverse PC, as well as any formats you have created. Choose the format that is best suited to the type of traverse you are starting.

If you choose to create the traverse by entering or selecting data (bearings, distances, arc lengths, etc) TPC uses the Edit Sequence of the format you select to determine the order in which data is entered or selected. As you enter or select data, the edit sequence is incremented. Once all the data in the edit sequence has been entered, the Traverse View automatically advances to the next point.

Settings

Select Traverse Settings for this traverse from the pull-down list. The list includes the pre-defined settings provided by Traverse PC, as well as any user settings you have created.

Select tSelect the Traverse Settings for this traverse from the pull-down list. The list includes the pre-defined settings provided by Traverse PC, as well as any user settings you have created.

Select the edit button [...] next to the Settings list to further edit the traverse settings. This action further modifies the traverse settings of the new or existing traverse but it does NOT modify the settings you selected from the Settings list.

Method 1 - Select bearing, distance, etc. from drawing or enter data directly in the Traverse View based on the Edit Sequence.

TPC prompts you for a starting point then creates a new traverse. You then enter traverse data like bearings and distances or select text objects from the drawing. The traverse's Edit Sequence controls the sequence in which data is entered or selected.

Option 1 Hot Keys

Method 2 - Select lines, arcs and polylines from the drawing. TPC arranges them in proper order for you.

Left click the drawing objects that define the traverse (lines, arc, polylines) or use Windowing or Crossing to select multiple objects. Once selected, TPC sorts the objects sequentially to create the traverse. If the objects form a closed boundary, the traverse will also be closed.

TPC uses the tolerance value in the dialog to determine if two drawing points reference the same survey point and reconciles the ambiguity automatically for you. Because TPC creates a traverse and displays it in a Traverse View, you can easily identify issues that need further attention.

Method 3 - Select existing survey points, snap to objects or left click to create new points.

You can select the symbol or label of existing survey points, snap to drawing objects or simply left click to create a new point. The points are added to the traverse as you select them, creating the sequence you want.

Method 4 - Select existing survey points only

Use this option to select existing survey points only. This is useful when you are selecting existing survey points into a new traverse and don't want to inadvertently miss the point.

New Survey Points

These options affect any new survey points created.

Label / Next Label

Specify the first point label TPC should use when creating any new points. Subsequence labels are incremented by one. You can mix alpha and numeric characters, so F1 will be incrementd to F2, F3, etc. while 100 will be incremented to 101, 102, etc. Choose Next Label to search the survey points and display the next unused point labe.

Tolerance

TPC considers two points to be the same point if the difference between them is less than this tolerance.

Description

The description you enter here will be adde dto any new point created. Descriptions are not incremented like point labels.

When the Command is Finished

Close the Traverse View

Turn this option On to automatically close the Traverse View for this traverse when you are finished. The traverse will still be displayed and tagged in the Survey View.

Turn this option Off to leave the Traverse View open after each traverse has been created. The Traverse View will be activated, allowing you to check the closure, edit any data, change the Traverse View format, etc. If have selected the 'Repeat the command' option, left click Drawing View to re-activate it and display this dialog with the information for the next lot.

Repeat the command

Turn on this option to create another lot when you are finished. TPC increments the lot label for you automatically and redisplays this dialog. You can select a new traverse creation option, select Traverse View format that is more appropriate to the data you will be selecting or change the Traverse Settings for the created traverse.

Insert (New Traverse)

Creating the traverse using these settings and insert it into the Survey View above the selected (highlighted) traverse.

Append (New Traverse)

Creating the traverse using these settings and append it to the list of traverses in the Traverses Manager.

OK (Existing Traverse)

If you are adding points to an existing traverse, choose OK to complete the command.

Cancel

Cancels this command. If you have been creating multiple lots, any of the lots you already created will remain - only the current lot will be canceled.
