Least Squares - Step 3 - Update Page

Once you have solved the network, you can update the survey.

None of the survey coordinates are updated until you choose Update Survey Now. This allows you to analyze the results of the network adjustment before apply it to your survey. You can also Undo the network solution, reverting back to the unadjusted coordinates at any time.

Actions during Update

Select the actions you want TPC to take when it updates the survey. The Update Survey Now button copies the adjusted coordinates to the survey, but you can also do any of these included actions.

Protect Computed Points

When the survey is updated, protect any survey points that receive adjusted coordinates. This insures that the adjusted coordinates will not be modified by any raw data stored in a traverse. Remember, this adjusted position for a point may be the result of any number of observations. You probably do not want to let TPC overwrite this position with the data from one foresight or side shot in a traverse.

Re-Compute Side Shots

Side shots are not included in the network analysis. However, once the network has been solved, you will probably want to re-compute any side shots that originate from an adjusted position.

Update Std Error of Coordinates

Choose this command to replace the estimated standard errors in the analysis with the standard deviations computed for the adjusted coordinates. This option allows you to control how much these points will be adjusted in future solutions to the network. You would typically use this option if you build you network in stages. For more information see Modifying an Existing Network.

Fix Adjusted Coordinates

You can also set the estimated standard error of any adjusted coordinates to zero, in effect fixing the position in any further analysis.

Update

Update the survey or traverse. None of the adjusted coordinates are included in the survey or traverse until you choose this command.

Undo

In the process of building the Least Squares network or traverse, TPC records the raw coordinates of each survey point it includes. These coordinates can be used to Undo the adjusted coordinates currently used in the survey.

You do not need to Undo the adjustments prior to re-solving. Each time you re-solve, TPC starts with the raw coordinates of each point.
