Station/Offset Tools

TRAVERSE PC includes many Station/Offset tools. Most are accessed from the Traverse View and modify the current traverse. Others create new traverses and automatically add them to the Survey View. The following discussion lists the Station/Offset tools available in TRAVERSE PC, along with the steps to access them.

To change the format of the stations from 0+00.00 to 0+000.00, choose <Tools> <Program Settings> <Units> from the Survey View and choose the <Station Factor> you want.

Stations

Create stations at assigned intervals along an existing alignment. You can choose one station interval for curves and spirals and another for tangents. The resulting stations are added to a copy of the original alignment which is inserted in the Survey Screen.

Enter the Traverse View for the alignment you want and choose <COGO>, <Stations...>.

Station Offsets

Inserts two points in the current traverse at a requested station. One is the station point along the alignment. The other is the offset point from that station.

Go to the Traverse View for the alignment you want and choose <COGO>, <Station Offsets...>.

Print Station Offsets

Print a Station Offset report for any traverse. The traverse must be an alignment with offset points in it. Only the offset points will be printed. The printout uses the form

Point Station Offset
102 12+50.0 45.00

where negative offsets are to the left, and positive offsets are to the right.
Enter the Traverse View for the traverse you want and choose <Tools>, <Station/Offset Report>.

Offset to Alignment

Combine the points from one traverse with the alignment of another traverse. A third traverse is created which contains the resulting station and offset points. Use this tool to combine site survey points recorded as side shots with an existing or designed alignment. Then plot the resulting traverse or use the Stations/Offset Report tool to get a printout.

Go to the Traverse View for the traverse containing the offset points and choose <COGO>, <Offset to Alignment>. Select the alignment traverse you want and choose <OK>. On the Survey View, you will see the new "Alignment/Offset" traverse.

Offsets from an Existing Station

You can add an offset point to an existing station (any control point on an alignment). You can enter any combination of horizontal distance, slope distance, etc. TRAVERSE PC computes the bearing of the point from the station and uses the information you enter to compute the position of the offset point.

Insert a point so that it follows the existing station, then choose <Type>, <OFS=Offset>. Enter the information you have.

Print/Display the Stationing of an Alignment

You can display the stationing of the control points in any traverses by including the letter "N" in the display sequence. TRAVERSE PC will display two columns: one called "Station" which is the computed station of the control point, and another called "Equation" which displays any equations you enter.

Help Index

Look at the Station/Offset tools in the help index. Either scroll down or type "S".
