TPC Desktop for Windows
QuickView Printing Options

Several options have been provided in Traverse PC Desktop for Windows to help you fine-tune the program to work with your specific printers.

The Problem

A common problem is misaligned text, especially line annotations.  The line annotations look great in the Quick View, but when you print your drawing, the annotations have moved off the line and are running into other text.  The reason for this is that different printer drivers require different information from graphics programs.

The Solutions

There are two ways to resolve this problem.

  • The first way to resolve this problem is to change a program setting from its default value to printer control of text placement.  This is the preferred method of resolving this problem.

    1. Go to the Tools menu | Program Settings | Quick View tab

    2. Click Font Settings

    3. Change the Character Set to Device Default

    4. Click OK and then OK again

    5. Print your drawing to ensure that the problem is resolved
Note: The font mapper does not use the Device Default value. You can use this value to allow the name and size of a font to fully describe the font the device uses. If a font with the specified name does not exist, a font from any character set can be substituted for the specified font. To avoid unexpected results, you should use the Device Default value sparingly.

  • The second method is to specify the text position using Top-Left Text Alignment

    1. In the QuickView, go to Edit | Drawing Settings, Miscellaneous tab.

    2. Click on Top-Left Text Alignment and click OK

    3. Print your drawing to ensure that the problem is resolved
Note: If your printer or plotter does not position line labels properly, it may be because the printer/plotter does not support all the text alignment options used. Turn this option on to align text using the Upper Left hand corner (all devices support this alignment). Try this method if the Device Default Character Set does not resolve your problem.

No matter which method you use, you may need to toggle the setting to its default value for other printers.
