Traverse PC - Contours

Displaying Contour Elevations...

As you position the cursor over a contour line, TPC displays the contour elevation on the status bar.  No more tracing the contour back to the nearest label just to get the elevation.

Automatic vs. Manual Re-compute...

While you are editing topo and border points, you want the contour to regenerate so you can see the affect of your edits.  Once you have it the way you want it, TPC will draw the contours really fast.  TPC lets you do that by turning Manual Recompute on or off.

Converting Transects to Traverses...

When a traverse or drawing objects like lines and arcs transect a contour, TPC converts the transect back into a traverse with real survey points.  Now you can do anything you want, including just plotting the transect.  This is just one of the many DTM tools you'll find in TPC.

Traverses...

They make all the difference.  A contour border is always defined by a traverse.  The property boundary (already defined in a traverse) can frequently be used as the contour border.  TPC can also create a border traverse automatically as needed for any contour.  Powerful contouring tools can save you time and money.

Topo Points...

Any topo point in a contour border gets included in that contour – it’s the #1 rule of contours for TPC.  The great news is that you can right click any point and make it a topo point or not.  Turn topo points on or off to see how they affect the contour.

Multiple Contours per Drawing...

A drawing can have as many contours as you want it to have.  Create a contour for each phase of a construction project then compare volumes at each phase for pay items.

Editing Topo Points...

There are many ways to delineate which survey points are ground shots (topo points) and which are not (top of fire hydrant, TV riser, etc), but the one you’ll appreciate the most is the Topo On/Off in the Quick View.  Just right click any point and choose Topo On or Topo Off.  TPC regenerates the contours right then, showing you the affect of that point on the contour map.

Sometimes the elevation of the point is wrong because the crew forgot to change the target height.  In that case, just right-click the point and edit it.  TPC opens up the traverse where the point was computed and positions the cursor on the traverse point.  All you need to do is enter the correct target height and close the Traverse View.  Wow! – is that ever nice.

You can even delineate topo points with a yellow shadow.  Now it’s real easy to see which points are included in the topo.

Editing a Topo Border...

Editing border points is as easy as clicking on a point to include it or exclude it.  You have to see this one to believe it can be this easy.

Contour Line Smoothing...

TPC uses a curve fitting routine to smooth the contours, guaranteeing that the smoothed contour lines pass through the interpolated elevation points and no contour lines overlap.  You can adjust the Tension to increase smoothing.  You can also specify a maximum angle so that flat vertices are not smoothed.  You'll like the way your map looks with smoothed contour lines.

Editing Breaklines...

You can add breaklines just by clicking from point to point or simply use any existing traverse.  You can even select more than one traverse and bring them all in at once.  TPC redraws the contours to show you the affect of the breaklines.  Don’t get what you expected?  Just click any breakline and it goes away.

Because breaklines are associated with survey points, not coordinates, you  don’t need to worry about your contours if you need to fix an error in your coordinates – the contours update automatically.
